— Benjamin Rudd, MD, Family Medicine Program Director
Welcome!
Welcome to the webpage of the Samaritan Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. As the program director, I am sincerely pleased that you are here. As you will see on this page, our family medicine residency is a close-knit, warm, and dedicated group of people who work, learn, teach, serve, and most importantly enjoy life in Watertown, NY.
I grew up here in upstate New York, roughly half an hour south of where I now live and practice. In fact, I was born at Samaritan Medical Center. This area and the people mean a lot to me. Many of the faculty members have similar connections to this region. Practicing and teaching broad-spectrum Family Medicine with a focus on preventative care and population health is something we are truly passionate about.
The mission statement of our family medicine residency program is “to graduate competent Family Physicians who are prepared to practice broad-spectrum Family Medicine in a rural environment including in a rural community-based hospital. We will train our graduates to be leaders both within the medical community that they practice as well as in the community-at-large that they serve. We commit to train our resident physicians as colleagues and hope that some of them will choose to continue their practice here in our community or neighboring communities in Northern New York.”
While mission statements can sometimes seem kitschy, this is something we have thought hard about and commitments we are very serious about honoring. If this sounds like the kind of physician you want to be, I would encourage you to apply and join our “family.”
