American Heart Association (AHA) Classes

These courses meet the standards of the American Heart Association for the training of providers in ACLS. The goal of these sessions is to integrate knowledge and motor skills into the development of proficiency in the techniques of ACLS. The material is covered through pre-course reading, videos and completion of a pre-test; in class discussions, hands-on practice, case scenario simulations and a written exam. 

Successful completion of the ACLS course consists of adequate performance in the following areas: 

  • Providing proof of successful completion of the pre-course work and pre-course self-assessment found at www.eLearning.heart.org 
  • Adult Basic Life Support Skills 
  • Recognition and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest and dysrhythmias
  • Appropriate use of emergency medications
  • Vascular access
  • Airway management
  • Successful performance as a team leader in a code scenario
  • Obtaining a passing score of 84% on the written examination

Precourse work is required. Current BLS Certification is required. Class size is limited. Please register early. 

Attendance does not guarantee certification. It cannot be emphasized enough that for the greatest success participants need to be well prepared. 

Per the AHA requirement participants must have access to the ACLS 2020 Guidelines Provider Manual before, during and after the class.

Instructor Course Note: Instructor candidates must possess a current AHA ACLS provider card. If you will be aligning with Samaritan you will need to have recently completed a provider/renewal course with us so we can determine your suitability to be an instructor. 

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Fees charged for such course do not represent income for the AHA. 

If you have registered but find you are unable to attend class for any reason, please notify the Training Center Coordinator at (315)785-4575 or (315)785-4501 as soon as possible. These classes are in high demand and often have a cancelation list. An administrative fee of $50.00 will be charged for failure to attend without notification.

Samaritan Medical Center offers a variety of Basic Life Support training programs presented according to American Heart Association guidelines.

HEALTHCARE PROVIDER COURSE

The BLS for Healthcare Provider course is designed to teach the skills of high quality CPR, airway management and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for victims of all ages. It is intended for participants who work in a healthcare setting and those who are required to take a healthcare provider course for employment or as a pre-requisite for school.

 *Employees must reserve their seat in class with a deposit, which will be refunded upon attending the class. The deposit is not transferable to another class without prior approval and will be forfeited in the case of failure to attend without advance notification.

The goal of these sessions is to integrate knowledge and motor skills into the development of proficiency in the techniques of PALS. The material is covered through pre-course reading, videos and completion of a pre-test; in class discussions, hands-on practice and case scenario simulations and a written exam. 

Successful completion of the PALS course consists of adequate performance in the following areas: 

  • Providing proof of successful completion of the pre-course work and pre-course self-assessment found at www.eLearning.heart.org
  • Infant and Child Basic Life Support
  • Recognition and treatment of respiratory distress and respiratory failure
  • Recognition and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest and dysrhythmias
  • Recognition and treatment of shock
  • Successful performance as a team leader in 2 pediatric emergency scenarios
  • Obtaining a passing score of at least 84% on the written examination

Precourse work is required. Current BLS certification is required. Class size is limited. Please register early.
