KG and her family were renting a cottage on Lake Ontario when she became violently ill with suspected food poisoning. Unfortunately, her sodium and electrolyte levels were already low due to a diuretic medication she was taking. Within hours of becoming ill, KG slipped into hyponatremia — dangerously low sodium levels — and experienced a seizure.

Her family called 911, and KG was driven to Samaritan’s Emergency Department by ambulance. She spent the next day and a half recovering in the Progressive Care Unit before being discharged.

As a nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of experience, KG recognizes good care when she sees it — and she saw it every step of the way at Samaritan.

“Everyone was wonderful, absolutely wonderful,” she said. “They were professional and friendly, and very good at explaining things and keeping me informed, which I think is huge. Each person made a difficult, sometimes uncomfortable situation, much more bearable. Amazing people and a wonderful facility.”
