At 75, Bonnie Cisco values her independence and mobility more than ever, and she’s grateful to Samaritan Orthopedics for the successful knee replacement that keeps her moving.

A retired pharmacy technician and cancer survivor, Bonnie enjoys an active lifestyle — gardening, socializing with friends, and providing care to adults with dementia. So, when her knee pain stopped responding to corticosteroid injections, she refused to be sidelined for long. A friend recommended Dr. Biren Chokshi at Samaritan Orthopedics, who turned out to be a great match for Bonnie.

“I remember my first appointment,” Bonnie said. “I liked his bedside manner. He was not in a hurry, he answered all my questions. I was a bit nervous because I had never had a surgery like this before, but Dr. Chokshi reassured me. Sometimes people give you that vibe, where you feel secure with them.”

Bonnie’s knee replacement surgery went smoothly. While her recovery is still ongoing, she is confident she made the right decision and is motivated by the progress she has made with her physical therapist. Importantly, Bonnie notes, she did not have to take any prescription pain medication post-surgery.

“I didn’t have to take any narcotics, just some extra-strength Tylenol,” she said. “I really had no complaints whatsoever when I came out of surgery. I’m very happy with the care I got.”

As her knee continues to heal, Bonnie is already looking ahead. She hopes to have her other knee replaced soon, by none other than Dr. Chokshi.

“I’m going to have the other knee done, and I won’t let anyone else touch it,” she said. “Dr. Chokshi was wonderful. I told him I would recommend him to my friends.”
