15th Annual One Night - One Diamond Event

15th ANNUAL “ONE NIGHT. ONE DIAMOND” EVENT ENHANCES LUNG CANCER DETECTION AND BODY TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY FOR PATIENTS

Lung cancer is the #1 cause of cancer deaths, and lung cancer rates in Northern New York are higher than state and national rates. The earlier it is detected, the better a patient’s chance for successful treatment. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Samaritan Auxiliary, diagnosing lung cancer just became more advanced. Proceeds from the Auxiliary’s 15th Annual One Night, One Diamond event will purchase a new Olympus 360º radial linear, extra-slim mini probe, used for image-guided cancer detection that can go deeper into the lungs.

This year, the One Night, One Diamond event will also provide Samaritan Medical Center with a second technology that provides both body warming and cooling capabilities. The Altrix Precision Temperature Management System warms a hypothermic patient and cools a patient whose body temperature is too high. When applied to the patient, this system can help reduce fevers and the potential for associated seizures, organ failure and an altered level of consciousness. It is also beneficial for patients with hypoxic brain injuries.

“With the rate of lung cancer and the rise in drug overdoses in our area, the need for this equipment is even more critical,” explains Irene Carman, One Night, One Diamond Event Chair. “We are so pleased to be able to support two pieces of important technology, both of which have life-saving potential, all thanks to the generous support of so many from the community and beyond.”

Once again, The Commons on Fort Drum is the setting for “One Night, One Diamond,” an elegant evening of dining, dancing, and a chance to win an exquisite half-carat diamond donated by Cook’s Jewelers of Watertown or a two night package donated by Lake Placid’s Mirror Lake Inn.
