The two most popular classes – Caring for New Families and Breastfeeding – have combined into a two-part course. Feel free to sign up for just one part, but we hope you'll take both!
Part 1: Breastfeeding Basics - 9:30 am until 12:00 pm.
Topics include how to get the best start, achieving a good latch, positioning, establishing a good supply, and managing common challenges. Provides information on community resources and basic information for choosing a pump and returning to work. Fathers and support persons encouraged to attend.
Part 2: Caring for New Families - 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Learn about the mother and baby unit at Samaritan Medical Center. Topics include: how to care for yourself and your newborn, bathing and diapering, circumcision care, safety, when to call the doctor, the difference between the baby blues and postpartum depression and more. Fathers and support persons encouraged to attend.
Classes are free and held on Saturdays. Breastfeeding Basics is also offered one evening every other month. Call the Maternity Place at 315-785-4050 for more information. All classes are held in the Conference Room area at Samaritan Medical Center on the 2nd floor.
