The Interventional Pain Management Center provides a dedicated area for the treatment of chronic pain patients. Our expert staff includes Ms. Lynn Barber and Ms. Barbara O'Brien, Nurse Practitioners, Dr. Erlinda Vidal and fellowship trained Interventional Pain Management Physicians Dr. Bhupinder Bolla and Dr. Ivan Montalvo.

The Interventional Pain Management Center's new office offers convenient parking, a comfortable environment, and expanded space.  Now located in the Watertown Medical Office Building (adjacent to Samaritan Medical Center) at 826 Washington Street, the new location accommodates the state-of-the-art equipment and specialized services that the Center offers to its patients.

Understanding Pain & Pain Management

Chronic pain syndromes often involve not only the patient, but family also. Many patients are unable to work due to their chronic conditions, and that opens the door to many social, economic and family stressors. The Interventional Pain Management Center at Samaritan understands this and strives to treat each aspect of the patient's condition.

Chronic pain is defined as pain that continues for longer periods of time (usually 4-6 months) as a result of an injury, surgery, or medical illness. Acute pain is pain of a short, limited duration, which often goes away with the healing process. Treatments for acute and chronic pain are often quite different.

Pain management at the Interventional Pain Management Center involves a multidisciplinary approach in treating chronic pain. Since the degree of pain varies from person to person, your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. Treatment may include a single approach or a combination of medications (pain killers, anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-depressants, anti-seizure medicines, other medicines), therapies (Physical Therapy, Psychological Therapy), and injection treatments. Our primary goal is to help you manage your pain and resume a more productive life by stopping pain from managing you.

Your First Visit

At your first appointment, you will meet with a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in pain management. During your meeting, she will ask questions and perform a hands-on examination. She will complete a psychological and physical assessment to help the doctor plan your care.

When the examination is complete, a treatment plan will be devised by the Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with the Interventional Pain Management Center physician staff.

You will be given a treatment plan before you go home, and treatment will begin at your next appointment.

Samaritan's Anesthesiologists, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, and Social Workers work together to provide the most comprehensive care available to:

diminish pain perceptions and intensity
improve and increase activity level
